Jill Heinrich is Professor of Education and Chair of the Education Department at Cornell College, where she has taught since 2003. Prior to her appointment at Cornell College, she taught high school English for eleven years, gaining extensive K-12 classroom experience that informs her scholarship and teaching. She earned her Ph.D. in English Education from the University of Iowa in 2001.
Heinrich's research specializations include religious literacy in public schools, masculinity studies, poverty in education, separation of church and state, and school choice. Her key publications feature "The Devil is in the Details: In America, Can You Really Say 'God' in School?" in Educational Review (2015), "When Cultures Clash: The Story of One School's Journey from Acculturation to Understanding" in Educational Review (2017), "Boys' Talk: Mediating Masculinity in the High School Setting" in The High School Journal (2012/2013), and "Searching for a Masculine Model: Missteps Made during Hegemonic Masculinity Instruction" in Journal of Men's Studies (2014). She conducted a three-year qualitative study on cultural clashes in an Iowa junior high amid demographic changes. Her recent work on school choice in Ireland appeared in the International Journal of Comparative Education and Policy, shedding light on U.S. debates. Additional research covers early childhood education in the 1900s, contributing to a Muscatine Art Museum exhibit, and women's roles in Enlightenment education with colleague Kerry Bostwick. Heinrich serves as a faculty expert, quoted in The New York Times (2023) and local media on education policy and equity.
