Great Professor!
Professor Jinman Kim is a Professor of Computer Science in the School of Computer Science at the University of Sydney's Faculty of Engineering. He earned his B.S. (Honours) degree in computer science from the University of Sydney in 2001 and his PhD in computer science from the same university in 2006. Shortly after, he was awarded an ARC Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in 2008. Kim established and leads the Biomedical Data Analysis and Visualisation (BDAV) Lab at the School of Computer Science. He serves as Research Director of the Telehealth and Technology Centre at Nepean Hospital, a Member of the Charles Perkins Centre, Imaging Theme Leader of the ARC Training Centre in Innovative Biomedical Engineering focused on musculoskeletal technologies, and co-leads the digital health imaging component of the Faculty of Engineering’s Digital Sciences Initiative.
Kim's research specializes in machine learning for biomedical image analysis and visualization, as well as multi-modal biomedical data processing that integrates imaging, omics, clinical, and electronic health record data to advance precision medicine and biomedical discovery. He has obtained multiple competitive grants from the Australian Research Council, including ARC Industry Fellowships in 2024, Discovery Project DP170104304, and a $549,163 Discovery Project grant for artificial intelligence applications. With over 8,200 citations from more than 330 publications, his work appears in premier outlets such as Medical Image Analysis, Nature Communications, Nature Methods, IEEE Transactions on Medical Imaging, and conferences including MICCAI, ICCV, CVPR, and ECCV, demonstrating substantial influence in medical imaging and AI. Kim actively engages in the academic community as Associate Editor for Computer Methods and Programs in Biomedicine and The Visual Computer, a reviewer for leading journals and conferences, and a keynote speaker at events like CGI 2024 and MICAD 2025.
