Professor Jiong Jin is a Full Professor and Associate Dean Research in the School of Engineering at Swinburne University of Technology, Melbourne, Australia. He earned his B.Eng degree with First Class Honours in Computer Engineering from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, in 2006, and his PhD in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Melbourne in 2011. Following his doctorate, he served as a Research Fellow at the University of Melbourne from 2011 to 2013. He joined Swinburne University of Technology in August 2013 as a Lecturer in the Department of Robotics and Mechatronics, advancing to Senior Lecturer from January 2017 to December 2020, Associate Professor from January 2021 to December 2023, and Full Professor since January 2024. Additionally, he directs the Networked Robotics and Automation Lab within Swinburne's Digital Capability Research Platform.
Jiong Jin's research specializes in the control and optimization of networked and embedded systems, including Internet of Things (IoT), networked robotics, edge computing, distributed systems, cyber-physical systems, and applications in smart manufacturing, transportation, and cities. He develops foundational theories, scalable architectures, and distributed algorithms verified by empirical data. His scholarly impact is evidenced by inclusion in Stanford University's list of the world's Top 2% scientists for 2019 citation impact, over 7,800 citations on ResearchGate, and an h-index of 36. Notable awards include the 2020 School Research Excellence Award, commendation for the 2019 Faculty Mid-Career Researcher Excellence Award, and the Top Teaching Award for the unit RME20001. He has secured funding through Australian Research Council projects, such as the 2019 ARC Discovery Project 'Real-time Internet of Things Algorithms with Performance Guarantees' with collaborators from the University of Melbourne and USC, and the 2019 ARC Linkage Project 'Privacy-Preserving Fog Info System in Infrastructure-Deficient Environments'. Key publications encompass 'An Information Framework for Creating a Smart City Through Internet of Things' (2014), 'Communication-Aware Cloud Robotic Task Offloading With On-Demand Mobility for Smart Factory Maintenance' (2018), 'Rate Adaptive Fog Service Platform for Heterogeneous IoT Applications' (2020), 'Achieving Democracy in Edge Intelligence: A Fog-Based Collaborative Learning Scheme' (2020, IEEE Internet of Things Journal), and 'Towards Fair and Privacy-Preserving Federated Deep Models' (2020, IEEE Transactions on Parallel and Distributed Systems).
