About James
Dr James Weber is Lecturer in Atmospheric Radiation, Composition and Climate in the Department of Meteorology at the University of Reading. He completed an MA and MSci in Natural Sciences (Chemistry) at Pembroke College, University of Cambridge in 2016 and received his PhD from the University of Cambridge in 2021 under the supervision of Professor Alex Archibald. Before joining the University of Reading he worked as a postdoctoral research associate at the University of Sheffield.
His research specialises in atmospheric chemistry, atmospheric and Earth system modelling, chemistry-climate interactions, the effects of biogenic volatile organic compounds on climate, and the non-carbon dioxide climate impacts of mitigation strategies such as tree planting. He uses models including UKESM and CESM to investigate these topics. Key publications include papers in Science (2024), Nature Communications (2022 and 2024), Geophysical Research Letters (2020 and 2026), and Atmospheric Chemistry and Physics (multiple years from 2020 to 2026). He serves as JULES Biogenic Fluxes Module Co-Leader and contributes to Fresh Eyes on CMIP. His work has addressed UK air quality improvements and chemistry-albedo feedbacks from forestation.
