João Silveira Lobo is an Assistant Professor at Nova School of Business and Economics (Nova SBE), part of Universidade Nova de Lisboa, where he has been teaching for over 20 years, primarily in executive education programs. He earned a degree in Economics from the Technical University of Lisbon, an MBA from INSEAD, and completed the coursework for a Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA) at Cranfield School of Management in the United Kingdom. His extensive professional career spans senior management and board-level positions across a wide array of sectors, including banking, urban transport, fast-moving consumer goods, modern retail, telecommunications, executive education, innovation and investment agencies, wood industry, media, tourism and leisure, and private equity. He has also launched his own entrepreneurial venture. Presently, he acts as a non-executive director and independent management consultant, with regular contributions to COTEC, a Portuguese association focused on innovation and technology.
In his academic role, João Silveira Lobo develops and delivers executive programs at Nova SBE emphasizing strategizing and strategy execution, utilizing action-oriented and discussion-based teaching methods to cultivate critical thinking and strategic decision-making skills among participants. His research interests center on how leaders can cultivate organizational cultures that embrace disruption, encompassing areas such as strategy, strategizing, foresight, management decision-support systems, innovation, and entrepreneurship. Notable contributions include the webinar 'Executing in Uncertain Times,' the article 'SMEs in 2021: Navigating the storm,' and 'Strategic Planning in Times of COVID-19.' He has received recognition for teaching excellence, including the Best Professor Award for the Executive MBA 2021-2023 class from The Lisbon MBA, a joint program of Nova SBE and Católica Lisbon School of Business & Economics, as well as similar honors in subsequent years.
