About Jocelyn

Dr Jocelyn Lippey is a Senior Lecturer in Education and Research in the Department of Medical Education at the University of Melbourne, within the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences. She is a general surgeon with subspecialty training in breast surgery and maintains a strong focus on breast cancer research. Dr Lippey obtained her Bachelor of Medicine from the University of Newcastle and became a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2013. Her surgical training included time at the Austin Hospital, followed by a Fellowship in breast cancer surgery through BreastSurgANZ at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, Royal Perth Hospital and Fiona Stanley Hospital.

She serves as a consultant breast surgeon at St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne and is actively engaged in medical education and research. Dr Lippey is currently completing a PhD at the University of Melbourne focused on improving breast cancer screening. In 2015 she received the John Collins Medal from the Australia and New Zealand Breast Cancer Trials Group for young surgical researchers. She is also a recipient of a National Breast Cancer Foundation practitioners grant supporting the development of a risk communication tool for a risk-stratified breast screening trial. Her research interests encompass early breast cancer, risk communication, tailored breast screening, ductal carcinoma in situ, and oncoplastic and reconstructive surgery. In addition to her clinical and research roles, Dr Lippey coordinates a unit of study for the University of Sydney’s Master of Breast Surgery program, instructs on Royal Australasian College of Surgeons courses for junior trainees, and teaches medical students at St Vincent’s and Northern Hospital Clinical Schools.
