Jodee Schaben is an Associate Professor in the Department of Health and Human Performance at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, where she directs the Health and Wellness Management undergraduate and graduate programs, including the Master of Science in Health and Wellness Management offered collaboratively with UW Extended Campus. She earned a doctoral degree in health promotion and a master's degree in health and human performance from Iowa State University, with her doctoral research focusing on the prevention of pediatric obesity. Prior to her faculty appointment at UWRF, Schaben served as head coach for the women's golf team at Central College.
Schaben's scholarly work centers on physical activity promotion, fitness knowledge in youth, sedentary behavior, psychosocial correlates of physical activity, the efficacy of fitness trackers in college students, and interventions addressing social media literacy and body image resilience. Her publications appear in peer-reviewed journals such as the Journal of American College Health, Journal of Teaching in Physical Education, and Digital Health. Notable works include 'Social media literacy and body image resilience: A curriculum intervention for college students' (2026, with Stacy Furness and Gregory N. Ruegsegger), 'To move more and sit less: Does physical activity/fitness knowledge matter?' (2021), 'Investing in college students: the role of the fitness tracker' (2018), 'Mediated Effects of Perceived Competence on Youth Physical Activity and Sedentary Behavior' (2015), 'Physical activity and physical fitness in children schooled at home and children attending public schools' (2004), and 'Calibration of the Biotrainer Pro Activity Monitor in Children' (2007). These contributions have accumulated over 700 citations. Schaben participates in applied research, including a Garmin Health study on fitness tracking at UWRF, and holds roles as Faculty Athletic Representative and member of Faculty Senate standing committees. She also serves as Executive Director of the Midwest Chapter of the American College of Sports Medicine.
