Jodie Lutkenhaus is the Axalta Coating Systems Chair and Professor in the Artie McFerrin Department of Chemical Engineering at Texas A&M University, contributing to the broader field of Engineering. She concurrently holds leadership positions as Associate Dean for Research in the Texas A&M College of Engineering, Associate Agency Director of the Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station, Presidential Impact Fellow, and Dean’s Fellow. She earned her Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2007 and her B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin in 2002. Lutkenhaus's research specializes in redox-active polymers for energy storage, polyelectrolytes, nanocomposites, thin films, and coatings, aiming to create sustainable electrochemical materials.
Lutkenhaus has received extensive recognition for her contributions, including the 2023 American Chemical Society Outstanding Global Mentor in Polymer Science and Engineering, 2022 TAMEST Edith and Peter O’Donnell Award in Engineering, 2021 Arthur K. Doolittle Award, 2020 Outstanding Early Career Paper Award, World Economic Forum Young Scientist (2017-2019), ACS WCC Rising Star (2018), NSF CAREER (2011), and AFOSR YIP (2013). She has presented invited lectures such as the Thiele Lectureship (University of Notre Dame, 2018) and Van Ness Lectureship (Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, 2016). Key publications feature "The role of the electrolyte in non-conjugated radical polymers for metal-free aqueous energy storage electrodes" (Nature Materials, 2023), "Polypeptide organic radical batteries" (Nature, 2021), "Antioxidants unlock shelf-stable Ti3C2Tx (MXene) nanosheet dispersions" (Matter, 2019), "Surface-agnostic highly stretchable and bendable conductive MXene multilayers" (Science Advances, 2018), and "Oxidation stability of Ti3C2Tx MXene nanosheets in solvents and composite films" (npj 2D Materials and Applications, 2019). Her work has profoundly influenced advancements in organic energy storage and nanomaterials.
