John Baur is an Associate Professor (tenured) and Director of MBA & EMBA Programs in the Department of Management, Entrepreneurship, and Technology at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas Lee Business School, specializing in Business & Economics. He joined UNLV as an Assistant Professor in 2015 and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2021. Baur earned his Ph.D. in Business Administration with concentrations in Organizational Behavior and Human Resource Management from the University of Oklahoma in 2015, where his dissertation examined pro-social rule breaking. He holds a Master of Business Administration with concentrations in Management and Finance from Creighton University in 2010 and a Bachelor of Business Administration in Management from Loyola University New Orleans in 2003.
Baur's research focuses on various forms of leadership, particularly their impact in unique or troubling contexts and innovative measurement methods; personalities, conflict, and expertise in teams; and workplace deviance, including self-serving and prosocial behaviors that risk employees' careers. His publications appear in top-tier journals such as The Leadership Quarterly, Human Resource Management Review, Journal of Business Research, Organizational Dynamics, and Journal of Leadership and Organizational Studies. Key works include 'Beyond banning the box: A conceptual model of the stigmatization of ex-offenders in the workplace' (Human Resource Management Review, 2018), awarded Paper of the Year for 2018; 'Blazing new trails or opportunity lost?
