About John Cameron

John Cameron Zito serves as Assistant Research Professor of Statistical Science in the Department of Statistical Science at Duke University, a position he has held since 2024. He received his Ph.D. from Rice University in 2024 and his B.A. from Kenyon College in 2016. Zito's research centers on Bayesian statistics and time series analysis. His work includes developing methods for sequential Bayesian inference in dynamic models, such as vector autoregressions with stochastic volatility. Key publications are 'Sequential Bayesian inference for vector autoregressions with stochastic volatility,' published in the Journal of Economic Dynamics and Control in 2020, and the chapter 'Time-Series Analysis' from 2024. In recognition of his contributions, Zito won the Student Paper Award from the American Statistical Association's Section on Bayesian Statistical Science.

At Duke University, John Cameron Zito is actively involved in teaching a range of statistics courses to undergraduate and graduate students. His course offerings include STA 101L: Data Analysis and Statistical Inference in Fall 2024; STA 199L: Introduction to Data Science and Statistical Thinking in Spring 2025 and Spring 2026; STA 240L: Probability for Statistical Inference, Modeling, and Data Analysis in Spring 2025 and Fall 2025; MATH 228L: Probability for Statistical Inference, Modeling, and Data Analysis in Spring 2025 and Fall 2025; STA 440L: Case Studies in the Practice of Statistics in Spring 2026; STA 542: Introduction to Time Series Analysis in Fall 2025; and HOUSECS 59: House Course in Spring 2026. Through these courses, Zito imparts foundational knowledge in data analysis, statistical inference, probability modeling, time series methods, data science, and practical statistical applications, supporting the department's educational mission in statistical science.
