Dr John Milnes is the Research Information Manager in the Operations Team of Research and Enterprise at the University of Otago. He provides administrative, financial, and IT support to the university's research activities. Milnes has held roles such as Operations Manager within Research and Enterprise and Team Leader Research Administration, as noted in the University of Otago Calendars since 2013. He contributes research funding data for university reports, including Research Highlights and SJWRI Research Reports. As Research Information Co-ordinator, he serves on the University Research Committee. Milnes is a member of the eResearch Advisory Group (ERA@Otago), collaborating with representatives from Physics and the University Library Research Support. He has presented on research information systems, including a session titled 'Leapfrogging to the Future' at eResearch Australasia with colleagues Cate Bardwell and Rasha Abu Safieh Alfar, discussing business intelligence, efficiency, and support in research operations.
Milnes earned a Master of Arts from the University of Otago in 1999 with the thesis 'Imperial soldiers?: The New Zealand Mounted Rifles Brigade in Sinai and Palestine 1916-1919'. He completed a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Otago in 2015 entitled 'The Church Militant: Dunedin Churches and Society During World War One', focusing on the Anglican, Presbyterian, and Roman Catholic churches. His research interests are New Zealand during World War One. He delivered a presentation at the University of Otago Easter Rising 1916 programme and speakers event. Milnes appears in university calendars with qualifications MA PhD (Otago).
