John Tessier is a Lecturer in Diagnostic Radiography and Program Convenor for Medical Radiation Science in the School of Health Sciences, College of Health, Medicine and Wellbeing, at the University of Newcastle, Australia. He possesses over 30 years of professional experience as a radiographer. His career commenced as Senior Radiographer at Newcastle Diagnostic Imaging from 1985 to 2001, followed by Radiographer at Belmont District Hospital from 1990 to 1995, CT Applications Specialist at Toshiba Medical Australia from 1995 to 2007, and CT Tutor at Hunter Imaging Group from 2001 to 2014. Tessier holds an Associate Diploma in Diagnostic Medical Radiography from the University of Newcastle completed in 1987, a Graduate Certificate in Tertiary Teaching, and a Diploma of Business in Frontline Management, both from the University of Newcastle. He is currently pursuing a Master of Philosophy in Medical Radiation Science. His teaching responsibilities include coordinating courses such as Diagnostic Radiography Methods 3A and 3B, Professional Placement 3A, delivering lectures, tutorials, laboratories, and assessments.
Tessier has received several awards for his contributions to student learning and work-integrated learning, including the Australian Learning and Teaching Council Citation for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning in 2011, the University of Newcastle Faculty of Health and Medicine Work Integrated Learning Staff Member of the Year in 2011 and 2016, and the Faculty International Collaborations Staff Excellence Award in 2012 for facilitating student upgrades from diploma to degree with partners in Singapore. His research specializations include the professional placement component of undergraduate diagnostic radiography education, computed tomography, diagnostic radiography, medical imaging, work integrated learning, radiology and organ imaging, diabetic peripheral neuropathy, and microvascular reactivity.
