Joris A. Melkert is Associate Professor and Director of Education at the Faculty of Aerospace Engineering of Delft University of Technology. He serves as senior lecturer at the Flight Performance and Propulsion chair. Melkert holds an MSc degree in Aerospace Engineering and a BSc degree in Business Administration. With more than 25 years of experience, he lectures on courses including Aircraft Performance, Structural Analysis and Design, Aircraft Design, and Aircraft Manufacturing.
Melkert’s research interests include aircraft design and alternative aviation fuels. He is a member of the Quality Assurance Board of the TU Delft Extension School and serves on the Program Committee of the International Council for the Aeronautical Sciences. Melkert chairs the ACARE Working Group on Research, Education and Research Infrastructure and co-chairs the ACARE Strategy and Implementation Board. He represents TU Delft in the PEGASUS network of aerospace universities, where he previously served as chairman, and in the ALICANTO network. In 2016 he was named a TU Delft Education Fellow. In 2026 he was appointed Officer of the Order of Orange-Nassau.
