José Manuel Castellano Gil, PhD in History from the University of La Laguna (Spain) with Cum Laude distinction and Extraordinary Doctorate Prize in 1996, is a prominent historian, researcher, educator, and author specializing in Canary Islands history, transatlantic emigration, Freemasonry, and cultural ties between Spain and Latin America, particularly Ecuador. He has authored over 30 books and more than 100 articles in specialized journals, including key works such as 'La masonería española en Cuba,' 'Los planes de defensa del archipiélago canario en el siglo XIX,' 'Historia de Canarias para jóvenes,' 'El primer rector de la Universidad de La Laguna,' 'La cultura a debate,' and 'Entre Canarias y Ecuador' (2019). Castellano Gil directed the Museum of History and Anthropology of Tenerife, advancing cultural preservation and public historical education. His research has been supported by grants from the Canary Islands Autonomous Community Government, Spain's Interministerial Commission of Science and Technology, and the European Union, involving projects on emigration, defense plans, and municipal histories.
