About Josephine

Professor Josephine Lang (PhD, PFHEA) serves as Professor of Education and Associate Dean (Learning and Teaching) in the Faculty of Education at the University of Melbourne. She earned her PhD from the University of Melbourne, focusing on the use of digital multimedia to support the professional learning of pre-service teachers. In her role as Associate Dean, she provides oversight of learning and teaching initiatives across the faculty. Professor Lang also holds the position of Academic Director of Micro-credentials within Melbourne Professional Education, where she leads the development and rollout of digital micro-credentials throughout the University of Melbourne's faculties. Additionally, she directs Professional and Continuing Education Courses and contributes to strategic advancements in educational innovation, including program design, accreditation, and assessment practices.

Her academic interests center on teaching and learning leadership in higher education, lifelong learning, workforce upskilling, micro-credentials, blended learning, curriculum and pedagogy, collaborative learning, eLearning, pre-service teacher education, and education for sustainability. Notable publications include 'Workforce upskilling: can universities meet the challenges of lifelong learning?' published in 2023; 'Finding common ground: Enhancing interaction between domestic and international students in higher education' in Teaching in Higher Education (2013); 'Perspectives on Teaching and Learning Leadership in Higher Education: Case Studies from UK and Australia,' which she co-edited; 'The Challenges of Blended Learning Using a Media Annotation Tool' (2014); 'Digital Credentialing: Does It Offer a Meaningful Response to Initial Teacher Education Reform?' (2016); 'Education for Sustainability in Australian Universities: Where is the Action?' (2006); and 'Tracing Changes in Teacher Environmental Education Understanding' (1999). Professor Lang has previously held roles such as Learning and Teaching Fellow at RMIT University and maintains expertise recognized through her Principal Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy. Her contributions extend to government submissions on improving teaching quality and advancing professional development in higher education.
