Juerg Weber is a Senior Honorary Research Fellow in the Department of Economics at the UWA Business School, University of Western Australia. He retired as Associate Professor in 2015 but continues as Senior Honorary Research Fellow, teaching classes in monetary economics and mathematical economics. Weber joined the University of Western Australia in 1989, where he served as Coordinator of the Master of Economics Program from 1995 to 2004. Prior to UWA, he was Assistant Professor at California State University, Northridge from 1983 to 1989 and Lecturer at Victoria University of Wellington from 1987 to 1989. He also held a Visiting Lecturer position at the University of Zurich in the winter semester of 1996/97. Earlier, Weber taught economics at the University of Zurich and evening courses at the University of Rochester while pursuing his doctoral studies. He holds a Licentiate in Economics (Lic. oec. publ.) from the University of Zurich, as well as an MA and PhD from the University of Rochester. Additionally, Weber serves as Honorary Consul for Switzerland in Western Australia and is a team member of the Centre of Integrative Bee Research, Plant Energy Biology at UWA.
Weber's research specializations include macroeconomics, monetary economics, insurance economics, monetary policy, central banking, operation of monetary systems, provision of multi-peril crop insurance in drought-affected areas, and monetary and financial history. Baer (2016), 'A Short History of Derivative Security Markets' (2009), 'The Role of the Real Interest Rate in U.S. Macroeconomic History' (2010), and 'Currency Competition in Switzerland, 1826-1850' (1988).
