Zelizer has garnered fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation, Brookings Institution, Russell Sage Foundation, and New-York Historical Society, along with book awards including the Organization of American Historians' Ellis Hawley Prize (2000) for Taxing America: Wilbur D. Mills, Congress, and the State, 1945-1975 and D.B. Hardeman Prizes (1998, 2018). As a public intellectual, he contributes as a CNN political analyst, Foreign Policy columnist, NPR guest, Substack publisher of The Long View, and co-editor of Princeton University Press's Politics and Society in Twentieth-Century America series, with over 1,400 op-eds published.
