Julie Cerrito, Ph.D., NCC, NCSC, ACS, serves as Associate Professor and School Counseling (PK-12) Program Coordinator in the Department of Counseling and Educational Leadership at Commonwealth University of Pennsylvania. She earned her Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision from The Pennsylvania State University in 2013, M.S. in School Counseling from The University of Scranton in 2001, and B.A. in Psychology from Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania in 1999. Prior to her current role, Cerrito was Assistant Professor and Director of the School Counseling Program in the Department of Counseling and Human Services at The University of Scranton from 2013 onward. She also worked as an Elementary School Counselor at Berwick Area School District from 2004 to 2013 and at Pocono Mountain School District from 2001 to 2004. Earlier positions include Adjunct Professor at The University of Scranton and Bloomsburg University, as well as various supervisory and assistant roles in counseling programs. Cerrito holds certifications as National Certified Counselor, National Certified School Counselor, and Educational Specialist II in Elementary School Counseling.
Cerrito's scholarly contributions include co-authored publications such as Behun, R. J., Owens, E. W., & Cerrito, J. A. (2015). The amended Child Protective Services Law: New requirements for professional counselors as mandated reporters in Pennsylvania, published in the Journal of the Pennsylvania Counseling Association, and Cerrito, J., & Behun, R. J. (2021). Online Career Guidance Systems for PK-12 School Students: Compliments to a Comprehensive School Counseling Program. She received the Certificate in Effective College Instruction from the Association of College and University Educators and American Council on Education in 2021 and the Edwin L. Herr Fellowship for Excellence in Counseling Leadership and Scholarship from Chi Sigma Iota in 2017-2018. As program coordinator, she oversees the M.S. in School Counseling, ranked No. 1 in Pennsylvania for 2026 by CounselingPsychology.org. Cerrito serves on the University Senate and has contributed as a reviewer for the Journal of the Pennsylvania Counseling Association.
