About Julie

Julie Sutcliffe is Professor of Biomedical Engineering and Professor of Medicine in the Division of Hematology and Oncology at the University of California, Davis. She serves as Co-Director of the Center for Molecular and Genomic Imaging and Director of the Cyclotron and Radiochemistry Facility. Her research focuses on the design, synthesis, in vitro evaluation, and in vivo screening of targeted molecular imaging agents and therapies, with an emphasis on rapid translation to clinical applications in oncology, including active trials for lung and pancreas cancer. Sutcliffe earned a B.Sc. in Chemistry from the University of London in 1991, an M.Sc. in Synthetic Organic Chemistry from the University of London in 1997, and a Ph.D. in Medicinal Chemistry from King’s College London in 2002. She previously held positions as Associate Professor at UC Davis and has founded Luminance Biosciences, where she serves as CEO. Among her honors are the SNMMI Mars Shot Fund Award in 2023, the UC Davis Health Deans’ Award for Excellence in Research in 2019, the Siemens Image of the Year Award in 2007, and a Most Cited Publication Award in 2008. Key contributions include the development of rapid radiolabeling approaches and a first-in-human PET imaging study targeting the integrin αvβ6. Sutcliffe has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications on molecular imaging probes and related topics.
