Bourget's research specializations include sedimentology, sequence and seismic stratigraphy, basin analysis, and 3D seismic geomorphology. His academic interests focus on deep-water sedimentology and petroleum reservoir properties such as turbiditic processes and sandstone reservoirs, stratigraphic architecture of continental slope and basin deposits in clastic and carbonate systems, tectono-stratigraphic evolution of sedimentary basins including Australia's North West Shelf, carbonate margins and slopes, calciturbidites, and characterization of siliciclastic shallow marine reservoirs using integrated datasets.
