June Fabian is a nephrologist and clinical epidemiologist at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa. She serves as Director of the Wits Donald Gordon Medical Research Institute and holds an appointment as lecturer in the Department of Internal Medicine, School of Clinical Medicine, Faculty of Health Sciences. Her academic qualifications include a B.Pharm, MB BCh, MMed from the University of the Witwatersrand, and an M.Pharm. Fabian trained as a pharmacist before transitioning to medicine at Wits and subsequently specialized in nephrology.
Her research focuses on the epidemiology of chronic kidney disease in African populations, including prevalence, risk factors, screening, and diagnosis. She contributed as the only African author to a 2026 Lancet series on chronic kidney disease. Fabian has received the NSTF-SAMRC Clinician-Scientist Award.
