Kasthuri Udayakumar, DNP, APRN, FNP-C, serves as Associate Professor of Nursing and Director of Nursing in the College of Health Sciences at Montana State University-Northern. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre in 2008, a Master of Science in Nursing from Valparaiso University in 2015, and a Doctor of Nursing Practice from Montana State University in Bozeman in 2022. Udayakumar joined Montana State University-Northern in 2016, advancing through the faculty ranks to her current leadership positions. As Director of Nursing, she oversees the Department of Nursing's programs, including the Associate of Science in Nursing and RN to BSN completion tracks, ensuring high educational standards and program accreditation.
In her DNP program, Udayakumar completed and defended a quality improvement project entitled "A Quality Improvement Project on the Implementation of Health Coaching for Hypertension Control in Primary Care" in 2022, focusing on interventions for chronic disease management in primary care settings. Her dedication to teaching excellence earned her selection as a 2025 Montana University System Teaching Scholar, recognizing her innovative contributions among faculty across the system. Udayakumar serves as the Nurse Administrator for the ACEN-accredited nursing program and has represented the department at professional events, including the ACEN Immersive Experience in Atlanta, Georgia, in 2024. She contributes to nursing education through simulation lab training scenarios with manikins and participates in initiatives like the announcement of the Walter & LaVonne Norman Endowed Scholarship for nursing students in 2025. Her office is in Hagener Science Center room 107.
