Dr. Kebret Kebede is a Professor of Biology in the Department of Physical and Life Sciences at Nevada State University. He obtained his M.D. from Aristotle University Medical School in 1985 and received training as an orthopedic surgeon. Dr. Kebede holds fellowships as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine (FRSM) and a Fellow of the International College of Surgeons (FICS). Joining Nevada State University in 2003 as a part-time instructor, he advanced to assistant professor in 2005 and has since progressed to full professor. Throughout his tenure, Dr. Kebede has been a valued educator, leveraging his medical expertise to instruct students preparing for healthcare professions. His career history at the institution spans over two decades, marked by dedication to teaching and student development in the biological and health sciences.
Dr. Kebede teaches key courses including Human Anatomy and Physiology I and II, Medical Gross Anatomy, and Global Health. In recognition of his academic and professional achievements, he received the Fulbright Specialist Program award in 2025 from the U.S. Department of State and the Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board, becoming the first professor at Nevada State University to achieve this honor. He completed a project at Universiti Sains Malaysia in June, presenting on the Bone Health and Bioeconomy program, which focuses on the intersection of biomedical innovation, public health, and sustainable economic development. This selection highlights his demonstrated leadership and ability to foster long-term international collaborations. Furthermore, Dr. Kebede has led student medical mission trips to Kenya and Ethiopia, providing practical training in medical skills. He has also introduced innovative teaching tools such as SynDaver synthetic human models for suture demonstrations, enhancing hands-on learning experiences for students in anatomy and physiology.
