Kelly Davidson, MD, is Professor of Medicine in the Division of Hematology and Oncology at the University of Virginia School of Medicine, serving as Section Head of Classical Hematology. She earned her MD from Washington University School of Medicine in 2000 and completed a fellowship in Hematology and Medical Oncology at the University of Virginia Medical Center from 2003 to 2006. Joining the University of Virginia over a decade ago, Dr. Davidson marked her ten-year anniversary with the Division of Hematology/Oncology in 2024. She established the Sickle Cell Disease program and leads the Adult Comprehensive Sickle Cell Clinic, expanding services for patients with benign hematologic disorders. Her efforts include collaborations across Virginia to improve sickle cell care, and she directs clinical activities in classical hematology alongside colleagues Valery Kogler, Hillary Maitland, and Louise Man. Dr. Davidson cares for patients with a broad range of benign and malignant blood disorders at the Emily Couric Clinical Cancer Center.
Dr. Davidson has delivered educational lectures, including the Medicine Grand Rounds presentation 'Sickle Cell Disease: Advances in Management' in 2022. She contributes to division updates on research and education in hematology/oncology and has served on the American Board of Internal Medicine Hematology Approval Committees. Recognized in Best Doctors in America lists for 2017-2018, she participated in the American Society of Hematology Advocacy Leadership Institute. Her publications include co-authorship on multicenter studies such as 'Clinical Outcomes of a Pharmacomechanical Catheter-Directed Thrombolysis in Acute Iliofemoral Deep Vein Thrombosis' (2021) and 'Quality of Life after Pharmacomechanical Catheter-Directed Thrombolysis for Proximal Deep Vein Thrombosis' (2020), as well as the case report 'Bite Cells Abound' (2020). Promoted to Associate Professor of Medicine in 2020, Dr. Davidson's leadership has enhanced clinical programs and patient care in classical hematology at the University of Virginia.
