Kevin Folliard

Kevin Folliard is a Professor and Director of the Laboratory for Infrastructure Materials Engineering in the Fariborz Maseeh Department of Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin Cockrell School of Engineering. He holds the Warren S. Bellows Centennial Professorship in Civil Engineering and the Austin Industries Endowed Teaching Fellow position. Folliard has been on the UT Austin faculty since 1999. Prior to this, he served as Assistant Professor at the University of Delaware from 1997 to 1999 and as Senior Research Engineer at W.R. Grace & Co. from 1995 to 1997. His research specializations include portland cement concrete, concrete durability, high-performance concrete, and controlled low-strength materials. He teaches courses related to civil engineering materials and concrete.

Folliard earned his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from the University of California at Berkeley in 1995, M.S. from the same institution in 1991, and B.S. from Florida Institute of Technology in 1990. He has authored over 150 technical publications, including more than 65 refereed journal papers. Key publications include "Mechanisms of air entrainment in concrete" in Cement and Concrete Research (2005, with L. Du), "Heat of hydration models for cementitious materials" in ACI Materials Journal (2005, with A.K. Schindler), "Test methods for evaluating preventive measures for controlling expansion due to alkali–silica reaction in concrete" in Cement and Concrete Research (2006, with M. Thomas et al.), "Properties of high-performance concrete containing shrinkage-reducing admixture" in Cement and Concrete Research (1997, with N.S. Berke), and "Methods for calculating activation energy for Portland cement" in ACI Materials Journal (2007, with J.L. Poole et al.). His work has earned him Fellowship in the American Concrete Institute, the ACI Young Member Award for Professional Achievement (2003), ACI Wason Medal for Materials Research (2010 and 2014), College of Engineering Award for Outstanding Teaching by an Assistant Professor (2004), Regents’ Outstanding Teaching Award from The University of Texas System (2013), and multiple Ervin S. Perry Student Appreciation Awards (2001, 2002, 2003, 2009).
