Professor Kevin B. Lowe is Professor of Leadership in the Discipline of Work and Organisational Studies at the University of Sydney Business School. A PhD holder with extensive academic experience, he previously held the position of Fletcher Building Employee Education Trust Chair in Leadership at the University of Auckland from 2013 to 2017 and was Professor of Management and Burlington Industries Excellence Professor at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro from 1996 to 2014. His research expertise encompasses leadership, cross-cultural management, international human resource management, organizational behavior, management, human resource management, leadership research, leader humility, mindfulness in leadership, and leadership's role in healthcare and political contexts. With over 20,000 citations on Google Scholar, Professor Lowe's scholarship has significantly influenced the field of leadership studies.
He has published extensively in top-tier journals, with notable works including "Does Leaders’ Mindfulness Benefit Followers? A Meta-analytic Review and Research Agenda" (2025), "The Role of Follower Characteristics in Presidential Leadership Selection: Effects of Follower Anger, Cynicism, and Election Anxiety" (2025), "The use of experimental designs to examine causality in authentic leadership: A scoping review" (2024), "Authentic leadership: 20-Year review editorial" (2024), "The leadership trilogy: A review of the third decade of the Leadership Quarterly," "CEO dark triad traits and organization COVID-19 response: the mediating effect of COVID-19 anxiety and moderating effect of follower self-leadership" (2024), and "Even Nectar is Poisonous in Excess: The Impact of Leader Humility on Pride, Entitlement, and Organizational Citizenship Behavior" (2023). Professor Lowe chairs the Board of the International Leadership Association, serves on the boards of the Southern Management Association and Australia and New Zealand Academy of Management, and is an Associate Editor of The Leadership Quarterly while sitting on editorial boards of ten leading journals. He supervises PhD students, examines theses internationally, speaks at doctoral consortiums on publishing strategies, and contributes to executive education programs. His research has received several awards, including multiple best paper awards from the Southern Management Association.
