Professor Khin Mar Myint serves as the Rector of the University of Medicine, Magway, having assumed the position on June 27, 2025. She earned her MBBS from the University of Medicine 1, Yangon, in 1993, followed by an M.Med.Sc in Pharmacology in 2001, with a thesis investigating the pharmacokinetics of drugs in normal human volunteers. She obtained her PhD from Kanazawa University, Japan, in 2006, under the Monbusho Scholarship provided by the Japanese government. Her doctoral research explored the molecular mechanisms of diabetic vascular complications using transgenic and knock-out mice models and binding assays, leading to the identification of a pharmacologic antagonist for the interaction between advanced glycation end products (AGE) and their receptor (RAGE). This work earned her the Takayasu Award from Kanazawa University for the most outstanding research paper of 2006. She also holds a Dip.Med.Ed qualification.
After graduating, Prof. Myint worked as an assistant surgeon in district hospitals and rural health centers before joining academia as a teaching faculty in 1998. She progressed to become Professor of Pharmacology and Head of Training and Research at the University of Medicine 1, Yangon, where she was actively involved in medical education, research development, and quality management. In 2016, she participated as a Fulbright US-ASEAN Visiting Scholar at the University of Maryland, focusing on medical education and accreditation systems in the United States. From 2019 to 2025, she served as Pro-Rector (Academic) at the University of Medicine 1, Yangon. Her academic interests encompass pharmacokinetics, molecular pharmacology related to diabetic complications, and advancements in medical education.
