About Kim

Associate Professor Ron "Kim" Keamy is an Honorary Principal Fellow in the Faculty of Education at the University of Melbourne, serving as a Teacher Education Researcher in the Assessment & Evaluation Research Centre. Prior to retirement, he contributed to teacher education research at the university. Previously, he held the position of Honorary Professor in the College of Arts & Education at Victoria University, where he was the inaugural Director of Learning and Teaching in the College of Education from February 2013 to December 2016, having joined the university in April 2012. Earlier in his career at La Trobe University, he received recognition for teaching excellence. His extensive professional experience encompasses teaching in primary education, special education with a focus on learning disabilities, community education, vocational education, and higher education. Keamy's academic qualifications include a Doctor of Education (EdD) from Deakin University, a Master of Arts in Science and Technology from Deakin University, a Graduate Diploma in Special Education (Learning Disabilities) from State College of Victoria Burwood, a Graduate Diploma in Educational Studies (Aboriginal Education) from the University of New England, a Bachelor of Applied Science (Outdoor Recreation Planning) from Charles Sturt University, a Diploma of Teaching (Primary) from State College of Victoria Bendigo, and a Graduate Certificate in Men's Health from Curtin University.

Keamy's research interests center on educational and academic leadership, initial teacher education, and teachers' professional learning, frequently employing arts-based research approaches. Notable publications include "Creative pedagogy: a case for teachers' creative learning being at the centre" (Selkrig & Keamy, 2017, Teaching Education), "Rendering the paradoxes and pleasures of academic life: Using images, poetry and drama to speak back to the measured university" (Manathunga et al., 2017, Higher Education Research & Development), "Time to listen: A case of leading a shift to blending teaching and learning in an Australian university" (Keamy, 2017, Teachers College Record), "Creative leadership? 'It's just the norm'" (Keamy, 2016, School Leadership & Management), and "Making teacher educators' experiences visible: seeing inside the black box of initial teacher education" (2024, Asia-Pacific Journal of Teacher Education). He has also authored books such as Study skills guide: A quick and easy reference for successful study (3rd edn., 1999; 2nd edn., 1995; 1st edn., 1991, with J. Reed) and Ida: Informal diagnostic assessment (1981). His contributions to teaching have been honored with the 2001 Teaching Excellence Award for Postgraduate Teaching from La Trobe University's Faculty for Regional Development, the 2006 Faculty of Education Award for University Teaching for a Program that Enhances Learning (team award), and the 2011 Faculty of Education Teaching Excellence Award.
