Professor K.K. Pant serves as Director of the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, having assumed the position on October 12, 2022. He holds a PhD in Chemical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur awarded in 1997, an M.Tech in Chemical Engineering from IIT Kanpur awarded in 1989, and a B.Tech in Chemical Engineering from Harcourt Butler Technological Institute Kanpur awarded in 1987. Prior to his current role, Professor Pant was affiliated with the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, where he served as Petrotech Chair Professor, Federation of Indian Petroleum Industries Chair Professor, Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering, Dean of Faculty, Chairman of GATE and JAM, and Chairman of the Library.
His research interests encompass heterogeneous green catalysis and reaction kinetics, artificial photosynthesis through photochemical and photoelectrochemical processes, hydrocarbon conversion processes, biomass conversion and biofuel production, CO2 conversion technologies, green technologies for sustainable energy and environment, renewable fuels and chemicals production, fuel from waste biomass and waste plastic, metal recovery from electronic waste, and water treatment and residue upgradation. Professor Pant has authored or edited books including Sustainable Metal Extraction from Waste Streams and the two-volume set Catalysis for Clean Energy and Environmental Sustainability. He maintains an active publication record with numerous peer-reviewed articles in journals such as Journal of Environmental Management, ACS Sustainable Chemistry & Engineering, and Chemical Engineering Journal.
