Kotaro Sasaki earned an MD from Hokkaido University School of Medicine in 2005 and a PhD from Kyoto University Graduate School of Medicine in 2017. He conducted research at Kyoto University in the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology, including as a postdoctoral researcher. His work has centered on human germ cell development using pluripotent stem cells.
A notable contribution is the 2015 publication "Robust In Vitro Induction of Human Germ Cell Fate from Pluripotent Stem Cells" in Cell Stem Cell, co-authored with colleagues at Kyoto University. He subsequently joined the faculty at the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine as an associate professor.
