Rate My Professor Lachlan Andrew

Dr Lachlan Andrew is a lecturer in the School of Computing and Information Systems within the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology at the University of Melbourne. He holds a B.Sc. (1992), B.E. (1993), and Ph.D. (1997) from the University of Melbourne. Prior to his current role, he served as an associate professor at Monash University. His academic interests include algorithm performance analysis, with research focusing on energy-efficient networking, green IT, network stability, speed scaling, and related areas in computing and information systems.

Andrew has received multiple best paper awards, including the William Bennett paper award and recognition for work on geographical load balancing. He was awarded an ARC Future Fellowship and has secured several ARC grants and industry-funded projects on topics such as power systems, traffic control, and resource allocation. He has served as an associate editor of IEEE/ACM Transactions on Networking and as an area editor of Elsevier Computer Communications. His publications include papers such as “Dynamic right-sizing for power-proportional data centers” (2013) and “Greening Geographical Load Balancing” (2011, later recognized with an ACM SIGMETRICS test of time award). He supervises research students and contributes to teaching in computing subjects at the University of Melbourne.
