Laura Busby serves as the Director of Business Intelligence and Research Services at Utah Valley University. A dedicated professional from Orem, Utah, she has been with the institution since 2003, advancing through several key roles including Director of Academic IT and Analytics, Academic Information Systems Manager, Interim Director of Institutional Research, and Senior Coordinator/Analyst for Academics. As a UVU alumna, Busby earned an associate degree in business management in 1999 and a bachelor’s degree in information technology in 2009. Her long-standing commitment to enhancing data-driven decision-making at the university has been recognized with multiple honors, including the Awards of Excellence in 2005 and 2010, and the prestigious Board of Trustees Award of Excellence in 2023.
In her leadership position, Busby oversees the provision of key performance indicators, institutional research, data governance initiatives, and data request services. She acts as the subject matter expert for academics-related data and supports areas such as faculty workload, space utilization, alumni and advancement metrics, business intelligence platforms, and compliance reporting. Busby contributes significantly to university governance as a member of the Data Governance Committee, helping to develop, implement, and assess the data governance plan. She represents Business Intelligence & Research Services on the Planning & Assessment committee and stewards policies like Policy 445 on Institutional Data Governance and Management. Additionally, she has represented higher education institutions on the Utah Education and Telehealth Network board.
