Laura Gil-Trejo serves as the Director of the Social Science Research Center (SSRC) within the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at California State University, Fullerton. She holds a B.A. in Psychology and Social Behavior and a B.A. in Social Ecology from the University of California, Irvine, along with an M.P.H. in Public Health from San Diego State University. Her career includes prior roles as a project coordinator and research associate at UC Irvine and San Diego State University. Joining the SSRC in 2004 as a Research Associate, she advanced to Associate Director in 2007, Acting Director in 2008, and was formally appointed Director in 2012. Gil-Trejo has teaching experience at California State University, Fullerton, and Santiago Canyon College. With over 20 years at the SSRC, she oversees a team conducting phone surveys and manages grants and contracts.
Under Gil-Trejo's leadership, the SSRC secures external funding averaging over one million dollars annually from entities such as the California Air Resources Board and Sonoma County Junior College District for projects including career and technical education surveys and small off-road engine population studies. She has authored more than two dozen professional technical reports for CSUF's academic departments and research centers. Her peer-reviewed publications include "Using Theater Arts to Engage Latino Families in Dialogue about Adolescent Sexual Health: The PATH-AT Program" (2012), "Predictors of Adherence to Treatment for Latent Tuberculosis Infection in High-Risk Latino Adolescents: A Behavioral Epidemiological Analysis" (2003), and "Dietary and Exercise Patterns of Hispanic Adolescents Who Have Latent Tuberculosis" (2000). Research interests span applied research, program evaluation, public health, data analysis, and quantitative methods. The center's survey data supports research organizations, scientists, community agencies, and businesses in generating trend reports. Gil-Trejo has presented at local and national conferences.
