About Laura

Associate Professor Laura Ginters serves as Chair of Discipline in Theatre and Performance Studies within the School of Art, Communication and English at the University of Sydney's Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. Her academic qualifications include a Doctor of Philosophy, BA (Hons), and LLB from the University of Sydney. As an interdisciplinary scholar with a background in Theatre and Performance Studies and Germanic Studies, she researches Australian theatre history, German theatre, rehearsal processes, student theatre, and women in theatre. Ginters lectures in the Department of Theatre and Performance Studies, contributing to learning and teaching activities, and supervises higher degree research projects, such as those on dramaturgy and translation. She also works as a translator and dramaturg, applying her expertise to practical theatre production.

Her scholarly output includes co-authoring The Ripples Before the New Wave: Drama at the University of Sydney 1957-1963 (2019) with Robyn Dalton, documenting the golden age of university theatrics and Sydney University's influence on Australian theatre. She contributed the chapter 'Student Ethnographers in the Rehearsal Room: Witnessing Prinz Bettliegend' to A Holocaust Cabaret: Re-making Theatre History from a Jewish Ghetto (2023).
