About Laura

Laura Rosenbury is a distinguished professor in the Law faculty at Washington University in St. Louis. She earned an A.B. summa cum laude in Women’s Studies from Harvard-Radcliffe College in 1992 and a J.D. cum laude from Harvard Law School in 1997, where she served as Primary Editor of the Harvard Law Review. Following law school, she clerked for Judge Carol Bagley Amon on the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York and for Judge Dennis Jacobs on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. She then practiced as a litigation associate in the New York office of Davis Polk & Wardwell and taught Feminist Legal Theory as an adjunct associate professor at Fordham University School of Law. In 2002, Rosenbury joined Washington University School of Law as faculty, achieving tenure as Professor of Law in 2008. She served as Associate Dean for Research and Faculty Development from 2010 to 2012, John S. Lehmann Research Professor from 2013 to 2014, and as affiliated faculty in the Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Program since 2007.

Rosenbury's scholarship centers on feminist legal theory, family law, employment discrimination, property law, and the legal regulation of intimate and work relationships. Her influential publications appear in premier law reviews, including “Friends with Benefits?” in the Michigan Law Review (2007, 304 citations), “Between Home and School” in the University of Pennsylvania Law Review (2007), “Sex In and Out of Intimacy” co-authored with Jennifer Rothman in the Emory Law Journal (2010), “Working Relationships” in the Washington University Journal of Law & Policy (2011), and “Federal Visions of Private Family Support” in the Vanderbilt Law Review (2014). She co-authored the fourth edition of Feminist Jurisprudence: Cases and Materials (2011). Rosenbury has been recognized with the David M. Becker Professor of the Year Award (2006), the Best Paper in Family Law award at the Stanford/Yale Junior Faculty Forum (2006), election to the American Law Institute (2010), and a fellowship from the American Bar Foundation (2014). As a sought-after scholar, she held visiting professorships at Harvard Law School (2012-2013), Stanford Law School (2008), University of Chicago Law School (2009), UCLA School of Law (2010), and University of Illinois College of Law (2010). At Washington University, she chaired the Clerkship Committee, served on the Faculty Appointments Committee multiple times, and contributed to various interdisciplinary initiatives.
