Lauren Housley is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Nutritional Sciences at the University of Georgia's College of Family and Consumer Sciences. She serves as Director of the Dietetic Internship Program, overseeing an ACEND-accredited graduate-level program that combines master's or Ph.D. coursework with over 1,000 hours of supervised practice. This prepares students to take the national credentialing exam for Registered Dietitian Nutritionists (RDNs). Housley is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) and Licensed Dietitian (LD).
Housley earned her Ph.D. in Nutrition from Oregon State University in 2015 and her M.S. in Foods and Nutrition, along with a Dietetic Internship in Clinical Nutrition, from the University of Georgia in 2010. She joined the University of Georgia in January 2022, following her tenure as an Associate Professor in the Department of Nutrition and Food Science at California State University, Chico, where she directed the Didactic Program in Dietetics and mentored graduate students on research projects involving nutrition interventions in cancer microenvironments. In 2024, she received the Outstanding Dietetic Educator Award in the dietetic internship category from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Foundation, representing the Nutrition and Dietetic Educators and Preceptors (NDEP) South Central Region. The award recognizes her teaching, mentoring, leadership, active learning strategies, and student-centered techniques. Additionally, Housley was appointed a Generative AI & Teaching (GAIT) Faculty Fellow for 2025-2026, presenting on AI innovations in nutrition case studies at a university colloquium. She serves on the Nutritional Sciences Executive Committee and contributes to faculty governance.
