Laurence J. Quinn serves as Chair of the Department of Marketing and Sales, Director of the Professional Selling Program, Sales Professional in Residence, and Assistant Professor of Marketing at High Point University’s Earl N. Phillips School of Business. He joined the university as an adjunct instructor in 2011 and transitioned to a full-time faculty position in 2013. Prior to entering academia, Quinn held senior executive roles in sales and marketing across various industries. His career began with service as a lieutenant in the United States Naval Reserve, where he served as an Aircraft Commander and Instructor Pilot, earning two Combat Air Medals. Subsequently, he worked as a system engineer at EDS; as a sales representative, sales manager, and national sales training manager at Xerox, receiving Salesman of the Year and Sales Manager of the Year awards in the Printing Systems Division; vice president of sales and marketing at Thomson Professional Publishing Group; and in sales positions at Duplex Printing Corp. Throughout his business career, he consistently exceeded sales quotas, achieved high closure rates, and excelled in turning around challenging situations while fostering team loyalty through creativity, hard work, and vision.
Quinn earned an M.B.A. in Finance from American University and an A.B. in English from Fordham University. Before High Point University, he taught professional selling, marketing, organizational behavior, and retailing at Greensboro College, Elon University, and George Mason University, where he earned outstanding instructor awards in 2010 and 2011 and coached winning teams in intercollegiate sales competitions. At HPU, he instructs undergraduate courses including Principles of Marketing, Sales in a Dynamic Environment, and International Marketing, as well as the graduate course Marketing in a Global Economy. As the founding advisor for the PSB Selling Club, he trains students in sales techniques and strategies, leads them to national competitions, brings in industry professionals for coaching, and helps secure internships and full-time positions at prestigious companies. In recognition of his teaching excellence, Quinn received the Meredith Clark Slane Distinguished Teaching Service Award in 2021. His practical industry expertise, engaging communication style marked by openness, candor, and humor, and commitment to professional development have profoundly influenced students entering sales and marketing careers.
