Leigh Craven is Professor of Art in the Department of Art and Art History at Bridgewater State University. She earned her BFA in Printmaking from the College of Architecture, Art & Planning at Cornell University and her MFA in Printmaking from the Rhode Island School of Design. She studied bookbinding with Peter Verheyen. As a member of the graduate faculty, Craven teaches in the Art Department, located in Tillinghast Hall, Room 209. She has served as Assistant Professor in the department and has been a visiting professor at various other institutions. Her artwork has been exhibited widely in group and solo exhibitions, earning her numerous honors and awards. She is represented by A.I.R. Gallery in New York City.
Craven has received several grants from Bridgewater State University to support her artistic projects. These include the Faculty and Librarian Research Grant for 'Mixed Media Artworks' in Spring 2010, through which she created a collection of 6–12 mixed media pieces featuring painted and drawn imagery combined with sculpted and cast objects, displayed in three-dimensional containers like boxes and bell jars to evoke reverie; a Small Grant for 'Professional Photography of Artwork' in Fall 2012 to produce high-quality images for exhibition, grant, and publication applications; and funding for 'Book Board Adhesive Binding' in 2008. Her publications feature contributions to the Bridgewater Review, including 'Drawings' (2007, vol. 26, iss. 1, pp. 15-19) and 'The Aura of Flora: Pâte de Verre Vessels' (2013, vol. 32, iss. 1, pp. 12-15), as well as 'Book Board Adhesive Binding' published in The Bonefolder (2008, vol. 4, no. 2, pp. 41-45). Through her teaching, creative output, and scholarly contributions, Craven enriches the academic community at Bridgewater State University.
