About Leigh

Ms Leigh McKauge is an Honorary Lecturer in the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Faculty of Health and Behavioural Sciences, at the University of Queensland. She earned her Bachelor of Pharmacy with Honours (BPharm Hons), Master of Philosophy (MPhil) in 2007 from the University of Queensland's School of Education, focusing her thesis on experiential education in the undergraduate pharmacy curriculum, along with a Graduate Certificate in Higher Education and membership as a Member of the Pharmaceutical Society (MPS). McKauge has held roles as a lecturer and student placements coordinator within the School of Pharmacy, contributing to the practical training and experiential learning components of the pharmacy program.

Her academic interests center on pharmacy education, including student professional identity formation, academic integrity, quality clinical placements, critical reflection skills, and health literacy in community pharmacy settings. McKauge has authored two books: Frontline Care: Diabetes Aware (2000) and Essential CPE: New Drugs in Context: Diabetes (1999). Selected peer-reviewed publications include "Pharmacy student professional identity formation: a scoping review" with Noble and Clavarino (2019), "Pharmacy students’ interpretation of academic integrity" with Emmerton and Jiang (2014), "Development and trialling of a graduated descriptors tool for Australian pharmacy students" with Stupans et al. (2012), "Exploring health literacy competencies in community pharmacy" with Emmerton et al. (2012), "Collaborative development of an online pharmacy experiential learning database" with Owen et al. (2011), and "Indicators of a quality clinical placement in pharmacy: Stakeholder perspectives" with Stupans and Owen (2011). Her work has influenced cross-institutional collaborations to enhance assessment tools, scaffolding for skills, and support for experiential placements amid Australia's national pharmacy registration scheme. McKauge has been part of UQ teams recognized for excellence in pharmacy training and teaching innovations.
