Leslie K. Boyd serves as an Instructor in Developmental Education at Portland Community College, with a focus on English. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from the Montana University System Office in Montana and a Master of Arts in Teaching: English from Portland State University in Oregon. As a full-time faculty member in Developmental Education, English, Boyd has made notable contributions to curriculum development and student support initiatives at the institution. In 2007, she was listed as Instructor, Developmental Education – Reading and Writing, in the Social Science Division at the Rock Creek Campus. Her teaching includes RD 115 College Reading as part of Community-Based Learning courses at the Sylvania Campus.
Boyd has actively participated in various college governance and programs. She co-coordinated a 2010 mini-grant from the PCC Foundation for student retention, working with Jacqueline Raphael, Bill Bogart, and Theresa Love to refine and adopt a research-based scoring rubric for writing courses. In 2015, she received a sabbatical for Winter and Spring terms at 75% of her annual scheduled salary to collaborate with the Developmental Education Department and task force on synchronizing approaches to teaching and learning, institutional and collegial interactions, and addressing students' needs both inside and outside the classroom. This effort sought to improve the educational experience for students in Developmental Education and beyond, including developing a new developmental reading sequence. She served as SAC Chair for Developmental Education/Adult Learning Center in 2018-2019, was English Faculty on the YESS Board at Rock Creek Campus in 2020, and participated in the Curriculum/Gen Ed Committee, including meetings in November 2008 and May 2019.
