Dr. Li Wei is a Senior Lecturer in the College of Science, Health, Engineering and Education at Murdoch University, specializing in nursing. She earned her PhD from Murdoch University in 2013, with a doctoral thesis titled 'Taoist Tai Chi™: Patterns of practice and perceptions of its effectiveness as a self-management strategy for chronic pain.' She also holds a Bachelor of Nursing (BN) and is a Registered Nurse (RN). Her academic journey at Murdoch began as a PhD candidate in the School of Nursing and Midwifery, where she explored self-management strategies for chronic pain in older adults through tai chi practices. Her research has since expanded to palliative and end-of-life care, culturally sensitive healthcare for immigrant communities, nursing education, evidence-based practice, and digital literacy in nursing.
Li Wei's career includes contributions to several key publications that highlight her impact in nursing research. Notable works include 'The benefits of tai chi as a self-management strategy to decrease chronic pain in older adults' (2011, International Journal of Older People Nursing), 'Meaningful and culturally appropriate palliative care for Chinese immigrants with advanced cancer: A qualitative study' (2019, Progress in Palliative Care), 'Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue: A marriage of innovation in nursing EBP and digital literacy' (2019, IATUL Conference Proceedings), 'Exploring Nursing Staff's Experiences and Perspectives of COVID-19 Lockdown in a Residential Aged Care Setting in Australia' (2023, Journal of Gerontological Nursing), and 'Validating care and treatment scenarios for measuring public preferences for end-of-life care' (2024, Health Expectations). These publications demonstrate her focus on practical applications in aged care, cross-cultural palliative care, and innovative educational approaches in nursing. Through her work, Li Wei addresses critical gaps in culturally responsive healthcare and nursing pedagogy, contributing to improved patient outcomes and professional development in the field.
