Professor Boon Lim serves as Conjoint Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Newcastle. He earned his MBBS and obtained FRCOG and FRANZCOG qualifications in 1990 following his obstetrics and gynaecology training in Aberdeen, Scotland, after graduating from medical school in Malaysia. His career includes consultant positions in New Zealand post-specialisation, followed by roles in Scotland and England where he held senior clinical management positions, including Medical Director and Clinical Lead for Maternal and Newborn Services for NHS East of England.
In 2011, Professor Lim relocated to Australia, taking up Clinical Director positions in Hobart, Canberra, and the Central Coast, New South Wales. He currently holds the position of Clinical Director of the Women, Children and Families Directorate for the Central Coast Local Health District. He has maintained senior clinical academic appointments at the Universities of Auckland, Aberdeen, Cambridge, Tasmania, and Australian National University. Elected to RANZCOG Council in 2012, he has chaired the Continuing Professional Development Committee until 2023, currently chairs the Governance, Finance and Risk Management Committee, and serves as a Board Director. He has contributed to FRANZCOG and RCOG examinations, served on the Medical Board of Australia, acted as Specialist Adviser to the Therapeutic Goods Administration, and participates in the Executive Committee of the Australian Preterm Birth Alliance and the Steering Committee of the Stillbirth Baby Bundle. Listed on the RANZCOG Register of Medicolegal Experts, he maintains a keen interest in training and education. His publications include 'Placenta accreta is associated with IVF pregnancies: A retrospective chart review' in BJOG (2011) and 'Increasing Incidence Rate of Cervical Cerclage in Pregnancy' (2016). Research interests encompass abnormal placental implantation, preterm birth prevention, and iron deficiency in pregnancy. He serves on the editorial board of BJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
