About Lina

Lina Markauskaite is a Professor of Learning Sciences and Deputy Head of School (Research) at the Sydney School of Education and Social Work, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, University of Sydney. She holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Informatics from the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics at Vilnius University, Lithuania. Her research focuses on learning sciences, particularly epistemic fluency, professional learning and development in higher education, interdisciplinary knowledge practices and cultures, and the integration of digital technologies and artificial intelligence in education. Markauskaite has made significant contributions to understanding how students and teachers develop professional expertise through knowledgeable action in complex, interdisciplinary settings. She was co-director of the Centre for Research on Learning and Innovation (CRLI) from 2017 to 2020 and leads projects funded by the Australian Research Council, including investigations into interdisciplinary expertise and ecologies of learning.

Markauskaite's scholarly impact is evidenced by over 6,800 citations on Google Scholar. Key publications include the book Epistemic Fluency and Professional Education: Innovation, Knowledgeable Action and Actionable Knowledge (2016, co-authored with Peter Goodyear), which conceptualizes epistemic fluency as a core capacity for professional practice; 'Rethinking the entwinement between artificial intelligence and human learning: What capabilities do learners need for a world with AI?'
