Dr. Lindsay Spindler is a Professor of Kinesiology, Chair of the Department of Kinesiology, Health, and Recreation, and Director of Graduate Studies in Kinesiology, Sport, and Recreation at Hardin-Simmons University in the College of Health Professions, positions she has held since joining the institution in 2008. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science (cum laude) from Abilene Christian University in 1996, a Master of Education from Tarleton State University in 1999, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Kinesiology from the University of Houston in 2008. Spindler teaches a range of undergraduate and graduate courses, emphasizing innovative teaching methods and student-centered learning both in the classroom and online. She actively mentors undergraduate and graduate students on diverse research projects, promoting hands-on experiential learning and scholarly development. Her commitment to integrating faith and academics is evident in leading Bible study groups with students and fostering discussions on Christian values in professional contexts.
Spindler's primary academic interests center on motor control and human performance. She has co-authored several publications stemming from student collaborations, including "Effects of Blood Flow Restriction Resistance Training on Gait and Balance in People with Parkinson Disease" (2024), "Relative Energy Deficiency in Sports (Female Triad)" with Maryn S. Campbell and Chuck Ruot (2025), "Patellofemoral Syndrome" with Ava E. Dennis and Chuck Ruot (2025), "Tibial Stress Fracture" (2025), and "A Clinical Teaching of Plantar Fasciitis" with Karlie A. Knapek and Chuck Ruot (2021). In recognition of her leadership on the Graduate Council and Graduate Faculty, facilitation of student research, innovative pedagogy, and efforts to build community health and wellness connections, she was named the 2025 Faculty Member of the Year at Hardin-Simmons University. Spindler also received the 2025 award from the Christian Society for Kinesiology, Leisure and Sports Studies (CSKLS), where she serves on the Board of Directors as a member-at-large. She maintains active memberships in the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and CSKLS, contributing to the advancement of kinesiology through professional engagement and service.
