About Lisa

Dr. Lisa Carson is an Adjunct Associate Lecturer in the School of Business at UNSW Canberra and an Adjunct Lecturer and Research Fellow in the Public Service Research Group at the University of New South Wales in Canberra. She earned her PhD and Master's degrees in International Relations from the University of Melbourne, First Class Honours from RMIT, and a Bachelor of Arts in politics and psychology from the University of Melbourne. Currently, she serves as Senior Research Fellow at the Australia & New Zealand School of Government (ANZSOG), engaging in research, advisory services, education, and thought leadership. She is also an Honorary Senior Fellow in Public Leadership & Diversity at the Melbourne School of Government. Her prior roles include Lecturer in Public Leadership & Diversity and Academic Coordinator of the Pathway to Politics Program for Women at the University of Melbourne, Principal Research & Policy Advisor at ANZSOG, and Postdoctoral Fellow at UNSW Canberra. With over ten years of teaching experience, Dr. Carson fosters intellectual curiosity, critical thinking, and safe learning spaces.

Dr. Carson's research addresses inequity and social change by connecting theory to practice and foregrounding marginalized perspectives across political science, feminist and gender studies, international relations, public administration and management, policy analysis, institutionalist theory, impact studies, and sociology. Her key publications include 'Power in Editorial Positions: A Feminist Critique of Public Administration' (Public Administration Review, 2019), 'Are fire services “extremely gendered” organizations? Examining the Country Fire Authority (CFA) in Australia' (Gender, Work & Organization, 2019), 'Rethinking the commissioning of consultants for enhancing government policy capacity' (Policy Sciences, 2021), ''Representational Irony': Navigating Succession Planning in Youth Civil Society Organisations' (Australian Feminist Studies, 2023), and a book chapter 'Part 2: The Role of Civil Society - Why youth and feminist activism matters: insights from anti-nuclear campaigns in practice' (2019). She has co-edited two special issues on research impact, authored numerous media pieces, and consulted for government and non-government organizations. As past voluntary coordinator of the Young Women's International League for Peace & Freedom (2016-2022), the organization was nominated for the 2020 Nobel Peace Prize. Her work contributes significantly to public administration, gender equity, and policy impact discussions.
