Liz Antonette Dacalan is an Associate Lecturer in the Curtin Dubai Foundation Program at Curtin University Dubai. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Science with a Teaching Major in Mathematics from the University of the Philippines. Currently, she is pursuing a Master of Education (MEd) at Murdoch University Dubai to further her expertise in education. Dacalan possesses over 13 years of experience teaching Mathematics, with a strong emphasis on building positive relationships between parents, students, and educators. Her skills include effective classroom management and the implementation of impactful assessment strategies designed to support student progress and understanding in mathematical concepts.
Prior to her appointment at Curtin University Dubai in January 2024, Dacalan worked for six years at an international school in Dubai. Throughout her career, she has taught Mathematics to students exhibiting special learning styles and needs, such as ADHD/ADD, Autism, and Dyslexia, adapting her instructional methods to accommodate diverse learners and promote inclusive education. In her current role, she delivers courses including MATH0015 Intensive Mathematics Foundations, preparing students for success in undergraduate programs. Additionally, Dacalan supports various university activities, such as coordinating student attendance and serving as staff in charge for parallel sessions at conferences like the International Conference on Innovation, Sustainability and Applied Sciences. Her dedication to educational excellence underscores her commitment to fostering critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and mathematical proficiency among foundation students at Curtin University Dubai.
