Locke Davenport Huyer is an Assistant Professor at Dalhousie University in the School of Biomedical Engineering and the Department of Applied Oral Sciences. He obtained a B.Eng. in Chemical Engineering from Queen’s University in 2014 and a Ph.D. in Chemical and Biomedical Engineering from the University of Toronto in 2019. He completed postdoctoral training at Johns Hopkins University before joining Dalhousie University.
Dr. Davenport Huyer’s research focuses on the interactions between host immunity and biomaterial implants, with an emphasis on understanding and modulating the foreign body response to degradable polymeric medical devices. His laboratory investigates immune cell behaviour at the material interface, develops immunometabolism-inspired material libraries, and designs next-generation implantable materials to address inflammation and fibrosis. He has published in journals including Advanced Functional Materials, ACS Applied Polymer Materials, and Nature Materials. In 2024, he received the Dalhousie University President’s Research Excellence Award – Emerging Investigator. He serves on the Editorial Advisory Board of ACS Biomaterials Science & Engineering.
