Lorelei Mason serves as Communications Adviser (Christchurch) for the University of Otago, working within the Division of Health Sciences External Engagement team. She provides strategic communications support, media engagement, and public relations services to promote health sciences research and activities at the Christchurch campus. With over 30 years of professional experience in journalism across print, radio, and television, Mason brings deep expertise in health reporting and communications. Her career highlights include serving as Health Reporter and Correspondent for TVNZ's 1News for 23 years, during which she earned more than a dozen national and international journalism awards. Prior roles encompass positions at BBC Television and BBC World Service Radio in London, presenting for Sky Television, radio journalism at Newstalk ZB in Auckland and 3ZB in Christchurch, and reporting for The Press newspaper.
Following her tenure at TVNZ, Mason established and managed her own health public relations consultancy, Lorelei Mason Health, representing clients from health research organizations, charities, non-governmental organizations, corporate health sectors, and health start-ups. In her current role at the University of Otago, she contributes to external engagement by crafting news releases and facilitating media coverage of medical and health science advancements. Her extensive background in health journalism enables effective communication of complex research to public audiences.
