Dr Lorraine Robinson RN DHC MSc PGDE BSc RNT serves as Head of Department for Adult Nursing and Senior Lecturer in the Florence Nightingale Faculty of Nursing, Midwifery & Palliative Care at King’s College London. Her qualifications include Registered Nurse (RN), Doctor of Health Care (DHC), Master of Science (MSc), Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE), Bachelor of Science (BSc), and Registered Nurse Teacher (RNT). In her leadership role, she oversees the largest department in the faculty, comprising around 50 staff members including professors, senior lecturers, lecturers, teaching fellows, lecture-practitioners, clinical teachers, visiting lecturers, researchers, and PhD students. Many staff have backgrounds in adult nursing or allied health professions with extensive clinical and leadership experience, specializing in areas such as accident and emergency, home care, pain management, critical care, specialist practice, and leadership management. Dr Robinson has contributed to the department's focus on preparing students to become excellent nurses through balanced programmes emphasizing person-centred care, clinical decision-making, health across the life span, mental health and wellbeing, and safe effective working, utilizing diverse clinical experiences with NHS Trusts and other organizations, alongside educational best practices like skills simulation and virtual simulation.
Dr Robinson's research interests encompass nursing, cancer, palliative care, cancer and palliative care, living with metastatic cancer, cancer genomics, and psychosocial support and interventions. Her work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), with a total of 61 citations across her outputs. Key publications include the editorial 'Cancer genetics' (with S. Goff, C. Jacobs, and P. Webb) in European Journal of Cancer Care (2010); 'A Delphi study on the research priorities of European oncology nurses' (with N. Browne and A. Richardson) in European Journal of Oncology Nursing (2002, 26 citations); 'The experience of undertaking faculty practice' (with A. Pegram) in Nurse Education in Practice (2002, 13 citations); and 'Psychosocial impact of recurrent cancer' (with K. Burnet) in European Journal of Oncology Nursing (2000, 22 citations). She co-edited Genetics for Health Professionals in Cancer Care (2011) and has led educational modules such as Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy Work Based Learning, Acute Oncology, and co-created the Cancer Care module for the BSc adult nursing curriculum to enhance inclusivity.
