Lourdes Sullivan is a key figure in DePaul University's efforts to foster community-university partnerships in urban education. Holding an M.A., she has served as School Partnerships Coordinator and Catholic School Partnerships Coordinator at the Monsignor John J. Egan Office of Urban Education and Community Partnerships (UECP), housed within the Irwin W. Steans Center. In these capacities, she facilitates connections between DePaul and Chicago public and Catholic schools, promoting social justice and addressing educational inequities in under-resourced communities. The UECP's flagship program, the Public Schools Internships (PSI), places DePaul students as tutor-mentors in Chicago public schools, providing classroom assistance, tutoring, mentoring, and enrichment activities while gaining insights into urban education challenges, poverty, and injustice. Sullivan has played a central role by serving as the primary contact for PSI Site Coordinator positions, which involve liaising between schools and university resources, supporting student teams, and contributing to program planning, monitoring, and implementation. These efforts align with DePaul's Vincentian mission of service to those in need.
Furthermore, Sullivan contributed to scholarly work by co-authoring "Making in Community-University Partnerships" with John Zeigler and Dr. Howard Rosing. The presentation was delivered at the Living Knowledge Conference Inspire – Integrating community-based partnership into learning and teaching for responsible research and innovation (RRI) on June 22, 2016, in Dublin, Ireland. The Egan Office supports such scholarship, including presentations at international conferences and publications in academic journals, enhancing the impact of community-engaged research. The Steans Center, which hosts the UECP, serves as DePaul's hub for community engagement, offering opportunities through curriculum, research, internships, and scholarships for students, faculty, and staff. By bridging university resources with local schools, Sullivan's work exemplifies DePaul's commitment to experiential learning and social responsibility in education.
